ServeAustin Priority Areas

After assessing Austin's current efforts in these areas and collaborating closely with community partners, volunteer impact initiatives were carefully designed and will be implemented using various community partners.

Back to School: There is a need to increase volunteerism in the classroom to help improve academic achievement in low income schools and at critical academic transition points.

City of Fitness:  Physical fitness awareness and programs in low-income schools need to be enhanced to help reduce childhood obesity.

Operation Outreach:  It is difficult for women military veterans to reintegrate into civil society and to gain access to community services and resources.

Take Heart Austin:  Survival rates from cardiac arrest are low and there is a lack of Austin citizens trained in Hands Only CPR delivery protocols.

Measuring impact is a crucial component of ServeAustin. Each of the three initiatives includes specific metrics to assess the programs’ impact over the next two years, with an ultimate goal of moving the needle on the City’s identified challenges through implementation of targeted volunteer strategies.

In cities across America today, citizen service is often an underutilized or inefficiently utilized strategy by municipal governments. Cities of Service supports mayors to leverage citizen service strategies, addressing local needs and making government more effective.
