Austin is a member of Cities of Service, a bipartisan coalition of mayors who have committed to work together to lead a multi-year effort to expand impact volunteerism. In June 2010, Austin was awarded a Cities of Service Leadership Grant, a $200,000 two-year grant to hire a Chief Service Officer and develop and launch a high-impact service plan. In March of this year, the city will launch a high-impact service plan and a new website that connect volunteers with organizations working in the areas of greatest need in Austin.
